Day 2 & Day 8 Testing FAQ’s

Frequently Asked Questions:

What do I need to do before travelling to the UK?

If you’ve visited or passed through a country on the red list in the 10 days before arriving in England, please refer to the Govt website https://www.gov.uk/guidance/transport-measures-to-protect-the-uk-from-variant-strains-of-covid-19

If you haven’t visited or passed through a country on the red list in the 10 days before arriving in England, you must:

  • Take a COVID-19 test and get a negative result during the 3 days before you travel to the UK
  • Book and pay for your Day 2 and Day 8 tests, often referred to as a ‘Travel Pack’
  • These must be booked before you travel. You can do this through NPH Group by visiting https://www.nph-group.co.uk/day-2-day-8-travel-pack/

Please NOTE: You will require your 12 digit ‘Booking Reference Number’ to complete your passenger locator form, therefore, please book your appointments first. Once you have completed your passenger locator form, you must go back into your appointment booking via your confirmation email and enter your passenger locator form reference number.

What tests do I need when I return to the UK?

The 10-day quarantine period includes mandatory testing on Day 2 and Day 8 of your isolation.

What is the Day 2 & Day 8 test package and how does it work?

Day 2 test
You will need to take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 of your quarantine period. The day of arrival in England will be treated as day zero. This first test is designed to help identify any potentially harmful variants of COVID-19 at the earliest opportunity.

If you get a positive result from your day 2 test, you must quarantine for 10 days beginning the day after the test was taken (this means until day 13). Your household will also need to quarantine until day 13. If you get a positive result from your day 2 test, you do not need to take a test on day 8.

Day 8 test
You need to take a COVID-19 test on or after day 8, unless you got a positive result from your day 2 test. If you get a positive test result from your day 8 test you will need to quarantine until day 19. Your household will also need to quarantine until day 19.

Our personal face to face service will also ensure that you are sent the Test swabs at the required time. You can attend for your appointment at an NPH airport testing centre; you can leave quarantine to attend an appointment, but you must travel directly from your home to the testing centre and back again.

How much is a travel test package?

The tests are sold separately on at £95 each.

How do I get my results?

Your results will be emailed to the email address you used when you booked your appointments.

Soon you will be able to access your test result via the NPH Group mobile application. Please follow us on social media to learn more.

Can I end my quarantine earlier than 10 days?

You can still use the Test to Release for international travel scheme. The scheme lets you choose to pay for a private COVID-19 test. If the result is negative, you can stop quarantining.

What is Test to Release?

You cannot take a test until you have been in England for 5 full days. The scheme is voluntary and applies to those quarantining in England only.

If you do not want to opt into the Test to Release scheme, you will need to self-isolate for 10 days. You cannot use the Test to Release scheme if you have been in or through any country that is on the travel ban red list in the 10 days before you arrive in England or if you have tested positive on Day 2.

Do I still need to take a Day 2 and Day 8 test if I use the Test to Release scheme?

If you’re planning to use the Test to Release scheme, you must still take a test on or before day 2 and on or after day 8, unless you’re exempt.

You still need to take a test on or after Day 8 to check that you do not have COVID-19, even if you get a negative result from your Test to Release and are released from self-isolation.

Check if you’re exempt here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-travellers-exempt-from-uk-border-rules/coronavirus-covid-19-travellers-exempt-from-uk-border-rules

Do I still need to take a Day 8 test if my Test to Release is negative?

You still need to take a test on or after day 8 to check that you do not have COVID-19, even if you get a negative result from your Test to Release and are released from self-isolation.

Do children need to take the Day 2 and Day 8 test?

Children under 5 do not need to take the day 2 or day 8 test

What happens if I test positive?

If you get a positive result from your day 2 test, you must quarantine for 10 days beginning the day after the test was taken (this means until day 13). Your household will also need to quarantine until day 13.

If you get a positive result from your day 2 test, you do not need to take a test on day 8. If you get a positive test result from your day 8 test you will need to quarantine until day 19. Your household will also need to quarantine until day 19.

Will I be entitled to a refund if I test positive on Day 2 and do not need to take my test on Day 8?

If you get a positive result from your day 2 test, you do not need to take a test on day 8. NPH Group will offer a refund for your Day 8 test if you are positive on Day 2, less the administration fee of £4.
