Our Responsibility to Reduce the Carbon Footprint

At times, we can all be guilty of taking the environment for granted – especially when at work!

Small habits and mistakes such as printing the wrong document, or throwing a plastic cup into the regular bin instead of the recycling bin can lead to excess waste, which increases our footprint on the environment.

Here at NPH, we decided to review our ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ policy in order to further reduce our carbon footprint and to lead the team into a greener future!

Doing the Write Stuff

Our first change is to recycle paper, plastics and card – using our new recycling bins.

With the average office worker using around 10,000 sheets of paper a year, according to Restore, recycling means that we save space in landfills as well as reducing the output of greenhouse gasses and preserving resources. On top of this, the team are minimising the use of paper by printing double sided as well as using black and white ink as default. We are also offering electronic receipts rather than printed receipts.

Crate Expectations

We recently changed our milk provider from store bought, plastic milk containers, to organic, fresh milk delivered in recyclable glass bottles. We made the decision to use glass as single-use plastics get thrown into landfills or the ocean and eventually biodegrade into harmful microplastics. These microplastics stay in our atmosphere for many years and have the potential to disrupt ecosystems and infiltrate food chains meaning that even humans will endure the ramifications.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

We are introducing initiatives so that we can all do our bit for the environment. As well the team are looking at setting up a beach clean – where we will attempt to address the growing issue of plastic waste on our beaches. There will be many more initiatives to follow and as a team we are also open to new initiatives and ideas…

In short, we have made it a key objective to minimise our carbon footprint and to reduce any negative impacts ,that we as a business, may have on the environment. We are committed to sticking to our changes and look forward to improving our carbon footprint even more.
